Submarine Tender (AS) Display Case. Items in
this case are from the submarine tenders. Submarine tenders provide,
at remote locations, just about every thing that a normal submarine base
can provide. During WWII it was tenders that provided the repairs
to combat ships, thus returning them to fight the war & win the war.
Video Station. Continuous submarine videos are
played all day. In addition, we have a reading library, 'JACK SCHIFF
MEMORIAL LIBRARY' for those who just want to sit & read about submarines.
We have on display one of the largest personal collections
in the southeast United States, of Submarine Insignia from around the the
world.
There are presently 46 countries that own and operate
submarines. The size of these submarine forces range from one unit
to over one hundred. Many of these submariners wear insignia that signifies their association with submarines. Some
insignia are automatically awarded while others must be earned through
a year or more of study and hard work.
