S-10 ships bell on display. The S-10 was commissioned
on 21 September 1922, with LCDR C. Wright in command. She sailed
& operated from Boston, to the Panama Canal, to Hawaii and back to
the East Coast. Even visited Memphis, TN in May of 1933.
Display case with photos and patches from various
submarines. In the upper right hand corner is a line locker hatch
from the USS BLUEBACK SS-581. BLUEBACK was the last combat diesel
submarine for the U.S. Navy. The research diesel submarine USS DOLPHIN
SS-555 continues to operate today.
Medal of Honor Display Case. Shows the 8 U.S.
Submarine Force Medal of Honor recipients. TM2 Henry Breault, O-5,
was the first submariner to receive the Medal. While his boat was
sinking, he went back into the boat to seal the compartment, where his
shipmate was trapped. They were later rescued. Seven more submarine
sailors received the medal during WWII.
